Schroders plc entered the Private Equity fund management business in 1983, in response to demands from its institutional investors for access to this asset class. Initially, Schroders plc acted as sponsor, General Partner, manager and advisor; however, as the advisory teams began forming autonomous groups, the "traditional" structure emerged. Today, all of the original advisory teams own and operate separate Private Equity businesses, the highest profile of which is the European team now branded as Permira.
Schroders Private Equity Services ("SPES"), which consists of operations in Bermuda and Guernsey, is the evolution of Schroders’ Private Equity management and administration team over this period of time. Key management members continue to lead the business, making this wealth of cumulative experience available to today's clients.
Allied to this continuity of the senior management is Schroders plc's institutional ownership of the companies representing SPES. Schroders plc, as a leading independent global asset manager (with US $204.5 / GBP £114.7 billion* under management), provides us insight into the challenges faced by the fund management industry and an inside perspective over the particular needs of the Private Equity management and administration business.
